How to install mods on your 7 Days to Die server

7 Days to Die loads mods from a folder called Mods in the root of the server. Each mod is a folder of its own containing a ModInfo.xml file.

1. Prepare the files

1. Download the mod and unzip it on your computer.
2. Look inside. You want the folder that directly contains ModInfo.xml.
3. Some downloads wrap that folder in a second folder with the same name. Uploading the wrapper is the most common reason a mod does not load.

2. Upload to the server

1. Stop the server from the Game Panel.
2. Open the Files tab. If there is no Mods folder in the root, create one with exactly that spelling.
3. Open Mods and upload the mod folder into it. For large overhauls, use SFTP with the credentials shown in the panel instead of the browser upload.
4. The result should read Mods/YourModName/ModInfo.xml.

3. Turn off EasyAntiCheat when the mod needs it

1. Open serverconfig.xml in the Files tab.
2. Find EACEnabled and set the value to false.
3. Save the file.

Any mod that changes game code needs this. Mods that only change XML config files usually run with EAC on. If in doubt, read the mod page.

4. Give the same files to your players

• Mods that add or change items, blocks, recipes or UI must also be installed on each player's PC, in the Mods folder of their own game install.
• Mods described as server side only do not need a client install.
• Players who launch with EAC on cannot join a server running with EAC off. They start the game through the launcher option that disables EAC.

5. Start and check

1. Start the server and read the Console. Each loaded mod prints its name during boot.
2. If a mod is missing from that list, the folder structure is wrong or the mod does not match your game version.

Large overhaul mods such as Darkness Falls expect a brand new world. Change GameName in serverconfig.xml to start a fresh save rather than loading an existing one, and take a backup before you begin.
