How to Become an Admin on Your RimWorld Together Server

Admin on a RimWorld Together server is not a config field you can fill in ahead of time. You connect once so the server knows who you are, then promote yourself from the console.

Step 1: connect once

Join the server with the RimWorld Together mod installed. The server now has a record of your user.

Step 2: find your user id

1. Open the Console section for your server in the panel.
2. Run:

   deeplist

3. Find your username in the output and note the UID beside it.

Step 3: promote yourself

op YOUR_UID

The change takes effect immediately and persists. Newer builds also accept a username and look the UID up for you, and will tell you if the name does not resolve.

The alternative: the admin player name field

You can also set your username in the admin player name field in ServerConfig.json, then restart. You still have to connect once first so the server knows the name. Stop the server before editing, because the config is rewritten on shutdown.

What admin lets you do

• Set the storyteller, difficulty and scenario for the shared world.
• Change the server's mod list.
• Manage players from inside the game.
• Run the moderation commands the console offers.

Run help in the panel console for the full command list your build supports. RimWorld Together is actively developed and the command set grows between releases.

The console works on offline users too

Recent versions let you run commands against users who are not currently connected, which is what you want when dealing with a report after the fact.

If op does not work

• The user must have connected at least once. deeplist shows only users the server knows about.
• Use the UID rather than the name if the name is not resolving.
• The server must be running for the console to accept anything.
