How to load an existing OpenTTD savegame on your server

You can move a single player game, or a save from another host, onto your PlayNHost OpenTTD server.


1. Find your save

  • Windows: Documents\OpenTTD\save
  • macOS: ~/Documents/OpenTTD/save
  • Linux: ~/.local/share/openttd/save

2. Upload it

  1. Stop the server from the panel.
  2. Open the File Manager or connect over SFTP.
  3. Upload your .sav file into the save folder.

3. Make sure it is the newest file

On start, the server loads the newest save it can find in save or save/autosave. A file you have just uploaded is normally the newest, but if the server has been running there may be a fresher autosave. Move the old autosaves out of the way to be certain.


4. Start the server

The console reports continuing the existing world from followed by the file it chose. If it names a file you did not expect, stop the server and clear the autosave folder.


Version note

OpenTTD loads saves from older versions but not from newer ones. A save made in a newer release than your server runs will be refused.
