GAME SERVERS
Game PanelA Don't Starve Together server is a cluster. The settings for the whole cluster are in cluster.ini, and each shard has its own smaller server.ini.
1. The cluster token is not optional
Without a valid token the server starts and then refuses to go online. The token comes from your own Klei account.
- In the game, open Account, then the games and servers section, and generate a server token.
- Stop your server in the Game Panel.
- In the Files tab, open the cluster folder and create or edit
cluster_token.txt. - Paste the token in on its own, with no quotation marks and no extra lines.
- Save and start the server.
2. Edit cluster.ini
- Stop the server.
- Open
cluster.iniin the cluster folder.

3. Shard settings
Each shard folder, usually Master and Caves, has its own server.ini holding the shard name and its port. Leave the ports alone. They are set to match the ports allocated to your service, and changing them breaks the link between the two shards.
4. World generation
World options such as season length and resource abundance are in worldgenoverride.lua in each shard folder. They only apply when a world is generated. An existing world keeps the settings it was made with.
5. Save and restart
- Save your files.
- Start the server and read the console. It reports the cluster name and whether the token was accepted.
If a setting does not apply, check it is under the right section header and that the server was stopped when you saved.
