How to Change Your SCUM Server Name, Password and Settings

SCUM keeps its settings in a single INI file, written by the server itself on its first boot. Editing it before that first boot is wasted work, because the server overwrites the file with its defaults.

Let the server create the file first

Start the server once and wait for it to finish loading. Then stop it. The settings file now exists with every option in it.

Open the file

In the panel open Files and go to:

SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini

The folder is named WindowsServer regardless of the host operating system, which is normal for this game.

Stop the server before editing. SCUM writes this file back out on shutdown and will overwrite anything you change while it runs.

• scum.ServerPlaystyle takes PVE or PVP.
• scum.ServerPassword empty means an open server.
• The multipliers are straightforward. 2.0 doubles, 0.5 halves.

The file holds far more than this. Every line is named in full, so search for the word you are looking for rather than guessing.

Slots

Your plan's slot count is applied through the MAX_PLAYERS variable on your server's Startup Settings page, reachable from the server overview. Raising scum.MaxPlayers in the INI does not add slots on its own. Upgrade the plan in the billing area to run more players.

Loot and spawn rates

Item spawn tuning is not in this file. It lives in the loot configuration files under:

SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/

alongside the settings file. These are large and easy to break, so download a copy before editing and change one value at a time.

Apply and verify

1. Save the file.
2. Start the server.
3. Check the server name in the browser. If it is back to the default, the file was overwritten because the server was running when you edited it.
