How to Change Your Renown Server Name, Password and Game Mode

Renown keeps its server configuration in Game.ini, in the standard Unreal Engine saved config location.

Open the file

1. Stop the server. The file is rewritten on shutdown, so an edit made while it runs is lost.
2. In the panel open Files and go to:

   Renown_Combat/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini

The settings that matter

• Server name, what shows in the browser. Make it distinctive so players can find it by search.
• Server password, empty for an open server.
• Max players, which works alongside your plan's slot count.
• Game mode and map, which decide what the server actually runs.
• Admin Steam IDs, the list that grants admin. See our guide on becoming an admin.
• Admin and RCON passwords, which must both be changed from their defaults before the server goes public.

Search the file for the setting name rather than scrolling, and copy the shape of an existing line rather than writing a new one from scratch.

Change the default passwords

A Renown server ships with default admin and RCON passwords. Change both immediately. Defaults are published in every setup guide, and a server left on them is open to anyone who reads one.

Slots

Your plan's slot count is applied through the MAX_PLAYERS variable on your server's Startup Settings page, reachable from the server overview. Raising the limit in Game.ini alone does not add slots. Upgrade the plan in the billing area to run more players.

Do not change the ports

The port values must match the ones allocated to your server, shown on the server overview. Changing them makes the server unreachable even though it starts cleanly.

Apply and verify

1. Save the file.
2. Start the server.
3. Read the panel console, then check the name in the browser. If it did not change, the file was overwritten because the server was running when you edited it.

Back up first

Download Game.ini from Files before a round of changes. It is small, and a known good copy turns a broken start into a quick restore.
