Empyrion server will not start or the galaxy reset

Empyrion problems are usually the config file or the save name. Work through these in order.

1. The server will not start after an edit

dedicated.yaml and adminconfig.yaml are YAML files, and YAML is unforgiving.

• Use spaces, never tabs. A single tab character stops the file loading.
• Keep the indentation exactly as it was.
• Read the first lines of the Console after a start. The parse error names the line.
• If you cannot spot it, restore the file from a backup and redo one change at a time.

2. The galaxy reset itself

The server loads the save named by GameName in dedicated.yaml. A change to that value, even a capital letter, starts a new game. Nothing was deleted.

1. Stop the server.
2. Open the Files tab and list the save directory. Every game you have created is a folder there.
3. Set GameName back to the folder you want and start the server.

3. Players cannot join

• Check Srv_MaxPlayers and the password.
• If you run a custom scenario, players need the same scenario at the same version. This is the most common cause of a refused join on a modded server.
• Restart the server after a game update so it matches the clients.

4. The server is not in the list

• Srv_Public must be true.
• Give the list a few minutes after a start.
• Players can add the server by address in the meantime.

5. The server is slow or restarts on its own

• Empyrion loads playfields as players travel, and a busy galaxy uses a lot of memory.
• If the console shows the process being killed rather than a game error, it ran out of memory. Reduce the player limit or move to a larger plan.
• Scheduled restarts help a long running server. You can set one up in the Schedules section of the panel.

Open a ticket from Support in the Client Area with the last 50 lines of console output if none of this fits.
