Game PanelValheim uses two ports. The game port is what players connect on, and the port one number higher is what the server browser queries. Getting these the wrong way round is the usual reason a join fails.
Find your address
Open your Valheim server at https://panel.playnhost.com. The server overview shows the IP and the assigned game port. That pair, written as IP:PORT, is what you share with friends.
Join from the Valheim start menu
- Launch Valheim and select your character.
- On the world selection screen choose Join Game.
- Click Join IP at the bottom.
- Enter the address as
203.0.113.10:2456and confirm. - Enter the server password when prompted.
Every player needs the password. A Valheim server without one will not start, so there is always a password to pass on.
Add it to Steam favourites
This method survives restarts and puts the server one click away.
- In Steam, open View, then Game Servers.
- Go to the Favorites tab and click Add a Server.
- Enter
IP:PORTusing the game port plus one. If your game port is 2456, enter 2457 here. - Click Add this address to favorites.
The server then shows in Valheim's own browser under Favourites.
Crossplay join codes
If your server is running with crossplay enabled, the panel console prints a join code shortly after startup, on a line mentioning the join code. Players on any platform can use Join Game, then the join code field, instead of an IP. The code changes each time the server restarts.
If the join fails
- Wait for the console to show the world has loaded. Valheim accepts connections only after the world is ready, which takes longer on a large, old world.
- Check you used the game port for Join IP and the game port plus one for the Steam favourites entry.
- Incorrect password with the right password usually means the client cached an old one. Restart Valheim completely and try again.
- Failed to connect immediately after a Valheim update means the client and server versions do not match. Restart the server so it updates.
