How to Become an Admin on Your Squad Server

Squad admin is defined in one file with two kinds of line. A Group line defines a set of permissions, and an Admin line puts a Steam ID into a group.

Find your SteamID64

You need the 17 digit number beginning 7656119. Read it from your Steam profile URL or use any SteamID lookup site with your profile link.

Edit Admins.cfg

1. Stop the server.
2. In the panel open Files and go to:

   SquadGame/ServerConfig/Admins.cfg

3. Define your groups, then list your admins:

   Group=Admin:changemap,pause,cheat,private,balance,chat,kick,ban,config,cameraman,immune,manageserver,featuretest,reserve,demos,clientdemos,forceteamchange,canseeadminchat
   Group=Moderator:changemap,balance,chat,kick,ban,cameraman,immune,canseeadminchat,reserve
   Group=Whitelist:reserve
   
   Admin=76561198000000000:Admin // Your name
   Admin=76561198000000001:Moderator // Their name

4. Save and start the server.

The text after // is a comment, which is the normal way to record who an ID belongs to.

What the permissions mean

• kick, ban, chat, moderation basics.
• changemap, set the next layer or change it immediately.
• cameraman, the free admin camera.
• immune, cannot be kicked or banned by other admins.
• reserve, can take one of the reserved slots on a full server. This is how a whitelist group is built.
• canseeadminchat, sees the admin channel.
• manageserver and config, server level control. Give these sparingly.

In-game admin commands

Open the console with the tilde key and use:

• AdminKick "PlayerName" reason
• AdminBan "PlayerName" "1d" reason, with the duration as a number and a unit.
• AdminBroadcast message
• AdminChangeLayer LayerName and AdminSetNextLayer LayerName
• AdminEndMatch
• AdminSlomo 1 to reset time scale after testing
• AdminCam toggles the free camera
• AdminListDisconnectedPlayers, useful for banning someone who has already left

Remote administration

Rcon.cfg in the same folder sets the RCON password and port. Your server has a dedicated port allocated for it, shown on the server overview. Set the password to something long, since RCON grants full admin.

If admin does not work

• The server must be restarted. Admins.cfg is read at startup.
• A group must be defined before any Admin= line that uses it.
• Check for a stray space in the SteamID or a missing colon between the ID and the group.
• The console reports the number of admins loaded at startup. If it says zero, the file did not parse.
