How to Fix Soulmask Server Settings That Do Not Apply

Soulmask settings live in two places, and a setting put in the wrong one is ignored without any error. Work through these in order.

1. Which setting goes where

• Launch parameters control the server name, the join password, the admin password and the player limit. These are set on your server's Startup Settings page, reachable from the server overview.
• GameUserSettings.ini controls the gameplay economy: rates, decay, difficulty and survival tuning.

Putting a server name in the INI or a harvest rate in the launch line does nothing.

2. The server was running when you edited

Soulmask writes its INI back out on shutdown, overwriting anything changed underneath it. The order is always:

1. Stop the server.
2. Edit.
3. Start the server.

3. The file did not exist yet

On a brand new server the INI is created by the first boot. Uploading a prepared file before the server has ever run means the first start overwrites it with defaults. Start once, stop, then edit.

4. You edited the wrong copy

The file the server reads is:

WS/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/GameUserSettings.ini

Config files elsewhere in the tree are templates. Editing those has no effect once the saved copy exists.

Verify a change took effect

The server name is the quickest test for the launch line. For the INI, pick a setting with an obvious effect, such as a harvest multiplier, and check it in game after a restart.

Back up before you experiment

1. Stop the server so the world is fully written.
2. In Files, download the save folder and WS/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/.

Those two together restore a working server exactly as it was.

The server will not start after an edit

Read the panel console. A malformed line in the INI is reported there. Restore your downloaded copy, or delete the file and let the server write a fresh default one on the next start, then edit it properly with the server stopped.
