How to change your Mindustry server name and settings

MindustryUpdated Sep 24, 20263 min read

Mindustry is configured from its own console rather than from a text file. The config command reads and writes every server option.

1. Open the console

  1. Open your server in the Game Panel and make sure it is running.
  2. Go to the Console tab. Everything below is typed there.

2. See and change settings

  • config on its own lists every setting and its current value.
  • config name My Server sets the server name shown to players.
  • config desc A short description sets the description.
  • config motd sets the message players see when they join.
  • config port shows the port. Leave it alone, since it is set to match your allocation.

Settings are saved as soon as you set them and survive a restart.

3. Hosting and stopping

  • host <map> <mode> starts a game. Modes include survival, attack, sandbox and pvp.
  • stop ends the current game and leaves the server idle.
  • gameover ends the round and moves to the next map.
  • save <slot> and load <slot> handle save files.

4. Automatic hosting after a restart

The server does not automatically host a map after a restart unless it is told to. If you restart often, use the Schedules section of the panel to send the host command, or run it by hand after each start.

5. If a setting does not stick

  • Run config with no arguments and read the value back.
  • Names with spaces work, but check the console echoed the whole name.
  • Some settings only take effect when the next game is hosted. Run stop then host again.

Open a ticket from Support in the Client Area with the console output if a setting will not hold.
