Lavalink is an audio server. Your music bot tells it what to play and the node streams the audio to Discord, so the bot stays light and several bots can share one node. This guide sets up a node on a PlayNHost Lavalink plan.
What you get
A Lavalink 4 node that starts on its own, with a private password already generated and its own address. You manage it from the panel like any server: console, files, backups and graphs.
Find the address and password
Open your server in the panel. On Overview the Address row shows host:port. Click the copy icon.
The Password is in application.yml. Click Open application.yml on the card, or open Files and the file. Under lavalink: then server: you find password:.
Treat the password like a key: anyone with the address and password can use your node.
Start it and check it
Open Console and start the server. The node is ready when the console shows that it has started. To test from your own computer, call its version page with your password:
A version number such as 4.x.x means it works. 401 means the password is wrong.
Do not change the port
The panel sets server.port in application.yml to your server's port on every start, because that is the only port that is open to the internet. If you change it the panel puts it back.
How much memory
1 GB handles a node for a normal music bot. Choose 2 GB or 4 GB for a busy bot or several bots. Watch the graph on Overview after a day of use: How to read your server's usage graphs.
