Game PanelConan Exiles spreads its settings across three files in the config folder under ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/. Knowing which file holds what saves a lot of time.
1. Stop the server first
Conan Exiles rewrites these files when it shuts down. An edit made to a running server is thrown away. Stop it in the Game Panel and wait for it to report offline.
2. Server name and password: Engine.ini
- Open the Files tab and open
Engine.iniin the config folder. - Under
[OnlineSubsystem], set:
ServerName=My Exiled Lands
ServerPassword=joinme
Leave ServerPassword empty for an open server.
3. Player slots: Game.ini
- Open
Game.iniin the same folder. - Under
[/Script/Engine.GameSession], setMaxPlayers=20.
Raising this beyond what your plan is sized for costs performance during raids, which is when you least want it.
4. Everything else: ServerSettings.ini
Gameplay rules live under [ServerSettings] in ServerSettings.ini:

5. Save and restart
- Save each file you changed.
- Start the server and check the console.
- Join once and confirm the name and password.
Most of these settings also appear in the in game server settings panel for an admin. Changes made there are written back to the files on shutdown, which is the tidiest way to work.
If a value keeps reverting, you edited a running server. Stop it first, every time.
