How much RAM does a Foundry server need?
Factory games grow into their memory. 4GB is right for a new world and a small crew. Once the base is a real factory, with long belt networks, hundreds of machines and a mined out cave system, 8GB is the comfortable place to be, and 12GB is headroom for a large shared megabase.
Can I set the map seed?
Yes. Map seed and world name are panel fields. Set them before first boot to get the world you want, because changing the seed afterwards generates a different map.
What is pause when empty?
A setting that stops the simulation when nobody is connected. It is on by default. Leave it on and your factory is exactly as you left it when you return. Turn it off if you want production to continue overnight, which some groups prefer and which costs a little more CPU.
How often does it save?
Every five minutes by default, and the interval is a panel field you can shorten. Saves are written to the server's own directory, which you can download over SFTP whenever you want your own copy.
Does the server update itself?
Yes, automatic updates are on by default, so the server takes the current build on start. You can disable it in the panel if you want to hold a version.
