How to Change Your No More Room in Hell Server Settings and Maps

No More Room in HellUpdated Sep 24, 20263 min read

No More Room in Hell is configured with Source engine console variables, written into a config file the server runs at startup.

Where the files live

In the panel open Files and go to:

nmrih/cfg/
  • server.cfg, executed on every map change. Your settings go here.
  • mapcycle.txt, the maps played and their order.
  • motd.txt, the message shown to joining players.

Maps themselves live in nmrih/maps/.

server.cfg

hostname "My PlayNHost NMRiH Server"
sv_contact "[email protected]"
rcon_password "a-long-password-here"
sv_password ""
sv_lan 0
sv_region 3
sv_gravity 800
mp_timelimit 0
sv_alltalk 0
sv_allow_wait_command 0
sv_setsteamaccount "YOUR_GSLT_TOKEN"
  • hostname is the name shown in the browser.
  • sv_password empty is an open server.
  • rcon_password is full remote control. Make it long and never share it.
  • sv_setsteamaccount is the Steam game server login token, which a public server needs to be listed. See our troubleshooting guide for how to create one.

No More Room in Hell has its own difficulty and objective variables on top of the Source defaults. Search the config for nmrih prefixed variables, or list them from the panel console, and change one at a time.

The map cycle

Edit nmrih/cfg/mapcycle.txt, one map name per line with no file extension:

nmo_broadway
nmo_chinatown
nms_ransack
nmo_toxteth

Objective maps start with nmo_ and survival maps with nms_. Mixing them in one cycle works, but the two modes play very differently, so most servers keep to one.

Custom maps

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Upload the .bsp files into nmrih/maps/.
  3. Add the map names to mapcycle.txt.
  4. Start the server and test with changelevel yourmapname from the panel console.

Players download custom maps from the server on join, which is slow. If you run many custom maps, a fast download host set with sv_downloadurl is the usual solution.

Slots

Your plan's slot count is applied through the MAXPLAYERS variable on your server's Startup Settings page, reachable from the server overview. Upgrade the plan in the billing area to run more players.

Apply the changes

Save, then restart the server or run exec server.cfg from the panel console. Some variables only take effect on a map change, so a changelevel is the safest confirmation.
