How to connect to your Minetest server

Minetest servers are joined by address. Your account is created the first time you connect, so the name and password you type become your login.

1. Find your server address

1. Log in to the Client Area at https://playnhost.com/billing and open your Minetest service.
2. Note the IP / Hostname and Port. Minetest uses 30000 by default, and your service may use another port.

2. Start the server

1. Open the server in the Game Panel at https://panel.playnhost.com and click Start.
2. Watch the Console until it reports the world has loaded and the server is listening.

3. Join from the client

1. Open Minetest and go to the Join Game tab.
2. Enter the Address and Port from your panel.
3. Enter the name you want and a password.
4. Click Register and Join the first time. After that, Login with the same details.

The password you choose here is your own account password on that server. Nobody can recover it for you except the server admin, so pick something you will remember.

4. What to give your friends

• The address and port.
• A note that they register their own name on first join.
• The list of mods your server runs, if any need matching client side content.

5. If the connection fails

• Check the port. Minetest needs it in the separate port field, not appended to the address.
• Check the client and server versions are compatible. The console reports the protocol version it accepts.
• Check max_users in minetest.conf if the server is busy.

Open a ticket from Support in the Client Area with your address, port and the exact error if it continues.
