Why host Smalland on a dedicated server?
So the world persists. Player hosted sessions end when the host leaves, taking the shared world offline with them. A dedicated server keeps it up, so building a base together stops depending on one person being available.
How many players can join?
The plans state ten, which is the co-op size the game is designed around. Being straight about it: Smalland's dedicated server does not take a player limit setting, so that figure describes the game rather than a limit we apply.
What can I actually configure?
More than most survival games. Day and season length, creature health and damage, nourishment loss, fall damage, friendly fire, keep inventory on death, peaceful mode and whether the server is private are all panel settings.
How much RAM does Smalland need?
More than it looks like it should. We measured an idle server holding steady at roughly 2.6 GB with nobody connected, which is the heaviest resting figure of any game we added this month, so the entry plan starts at 8 GB rather than 4 GB.
What is the difference between the two plans?
Memory for a larger, busier world. The player figure is the same on both because the server does not let us set one, so pretending the plans differ on players would be selling something we cannot deliver.
Does the server update itself?
Yes, by default. It checks for a new build and validates its files each time it starts. You can turn that off from the panel if you want to stay on a particular version.
