Is this Minetest or Luanti?
They are the same project. Minetest was renamed Luanti, and the content repository moved to content.luanti.org. Our egg installs from the current location, so community games and mods download correctly rather than silently failing the way older setups do.
Can I install a community game?
Yes. Set the community download option on and give it the package name and author from ContentDB, and the install pulls that game and puts it in place. If the package is not a valid game the install fails loudly rather than leaving you with an empty world.
How do I add mods?
Upload them into the mods folder over SFTP or in the web file manager, then enable them for your world. The folder is created for you at install, so there is nothing to set up first.
How many players can it hold?
Fifteen, thirty or sixty depending on the plan, and Minetest handles those numbers well because the engine is light. Sixty players on 4GB is a realistic community or school server rather than a stretch.
Do players need to buy anything?
No. Minetest and Luanti are free and open source. Your players download the client and connect. That is the whole barrier.
