How to Become an Admin on Your The Front Server

The FrontUpdated Sep 24, 20263 min read

The Front grants admin from a list of Steam IDs in the server config. Once you are on it, the admin tools appear in game automatically.

Find your SteamID64

You need the 17 digit number that begins 7656119, not your display name. Read it from your Steam profile URL or use a SteamID lookup site with your profile link.

Add yourself

  1. Stop the server.
  2. In the panel open Files and edit:
    TheFrontManager/ServerConfig_.ini
  3. Set the admin list, semicolon separated, with a trailing semicolon:
    ServerAdminAccounts=76561198000000000;76561198000000001;
  4. Save and start the server.

Use the admin tools

Join the server. Admins get access to the in-game admin menu, which covers the moderation actions you need day to day:

  • Listing connected players and their IDs.
  • Kicking and banning.
  • Teleporting to a player or bringing a player to you, which is how most reports are dealt with.
  • Server announcements.
  • Spawning items for testing or to replace something lost to a bug.

From the panel console

The panel Console section is attached to the server process. Anything the server accepts on its own console can be typed there, which is the fastest way to broadcast a restart warning or force a save without joining.

If admin does not apply

  • The server must be restarted. The list is read at startup.
  • Check the separators. Semicolons between IDs and one after the last ID.
  • Check the SteamID64 for typos. The Front does not report a bad ID.
  • If the change vanished, you edited while the server was running and the shutdown write overwrote it. Stop first, then edit.
