What is OpenTTD?
OpenTTD is a free, open source transport simulation built on Transport Tycoon Deluxe. You build road, rail, sea and air networks, connect industries and towns, and grow a company over decades of in-game time.
Does everyone need to buy the game?
No. OpenTTD is free to download from openttd.org on Windows, macOS and Linux, so anyone you invite can join at no cost.
How big can the map be?
You can choose 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024 or 2048x2048 from your server settings. Larger maps give more room for long networks and more towns to serve.
How many companies can play?
Up to 15 companies, which is OpenTTD's own limit. Players can also share a company, so a server can hold more people than it holds companies.
Can I use NewGRF content?
Yes. Upload NewGRF files through SFTP or the file manager, and everyone joining will be prompted to download them.
Will my game be saved?
Yes. The server autosaves on the interval you choose and writes a save when it stops, and it continues from the newest save the next time it starts.
